Compensation: $16.78 per hour

ECF was founded in 1946 by a group of parents and community activists who sought to establish a day training program as an alternative to institutional care for individuals with developmental disabilities. For the last 75 years we have worked to improve the lives of children, youth and adults in the Los Angeles County area by offering a wide range of experiences and opportunities to encourage individuals to discover and develop their unique talents and abilities. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Under direct supervision, provide individualized and group instruction to adult clients with developmental disabilities.
Essential Duties:
  • Supervise, train and evaluate assigned clients during facility and community-based activities. Promptly address questions to case manager or supervisor. Serve as job coach for clients in paid work and volunteer placements in facility and community-based training.
  • Deliver services to the clients that will enhance their ability to function within the program and in the community and, in general, work closely and cooperatively with all staff to assist clients in meeting their goals. Remain engaged with clients while in the classroom and during community outings.
  • Instruct, provide continuous supervision, support and assist clients in the development of social, self-help and work skills in accordance with the Individual Program Plan (IPP) including, but not limited to, communication, gross motor, pre-vocational, employment, community integration, cognitive, and social-emotional domains. Provide behavioral intervention to clients through appropriate methods as designated in overall goals and curriculum.
  • Record information regarding clients’ progress using appropriate assessment/ measurement tools for development of individual program plans. Provide input to case management staff. Submit written progress reports monthly and unusual incidents reports as needed.
  • Prepare and/or follow lesson plans including scheduling classroom and community activities in advance. Lesson plans should involve activities that engage and benefit the consumers.
  • Provide supervision during clients’ arrival, departure, and lunchtime.
  • Assist clients with personal hygiene needs including toileting, illness and incidents of incontinence. Attend to the personal needs of clients in a dignified and caring manner.
  • Transport and/or accompany clients on public transportation for community-based trainings or community outings and medical emergencies. Staff is to remain engaged with clients during work hours.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: One year directly related experience working with adults with special needs.
Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and write English in order to follow instructions, read and write reports, and communicate with clients.
  • Ability to write accurate and descriptive progress reports, unusual incident reports, etc.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Insurable driving record.
  • Pass a Department of Justice background investigation.
  • Provide evidence of a negative TB test initially and every three years thereafter.
