Full Salary Range: Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full salary range for this position is 64,496.38 to $103,718.76/yr. The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $69,801.53 to $77,073.77/yr.

Working Days and Hours: Mon-Thursday; 7.5 hours/day between 9am - 5pm

Brief Summary of Job Duties

Under general supervision and in collaboration with Professor Paul Hansma, responsible for management of the research program, Reduction of Chronic Pain with Novel Biofeedback and Educational Devices. Primary responsibilities include creating novel biofeedback and educational devices, and preparing them for tests on human subjects with chronic pain. Responsible for making innovative contributions pertaining to laboratory experimental procedures, including planning new studies for the biofeedback devices. Hires, trains, and supervises students who are acting as program study coordinators.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field and or equivalent training and/or experience.
  • 1-3 years of technical and craft experience working in a research laboratory.
  • 1-3 years of experience working with electronics and prototyping platforms.
  • 1-3 years of experience managing a team of people on a technical project.
  • 1 year of experience with fabricating, assembling, and maintaining electronic devices.
  • Proficient in operation of machine shop equipment and common procedures.
  • Proficient in fabrication, assembly, and maintenance of devices.
  • Ability to conduct research and do data analysis utilizing various software.
  • Knowledge of biofeedback devices and software.
  • Solid understanding of data collection devices and data collection software.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative manner.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year of experience with the Arduino platform.

Job Functions/Percentage of Time/Duties

Develop & Test Biofeedback Devices; Plan Novel Research Studies 60%

Responsible for the development, design and testing of novel biofeedback and educational devices for use with chronic pain management. Engineering of novel electronic devices requires proficiency in the operation of machine shop equipment and common procedures to fabricate, assemble, and maintain devices. Prepares biofeedback devices for tests on human subjects with chronic pain. Collaborates with Dr. Hansma and contribute original ideas on the development and implementation of new studies on chronic pain management utilizing the biofeedback and educational devices.

Program Management 40%

Responsible for the daily oversight of the Program, including recruiting, hiring, supervising and training undergraduate students to assist with building the devices. Plans and assigns the work of multiple student participants, standardizes new techniques and develop relevant policy. Manages additional students who are acting as study coordinators.
