The opportunity:
We are looking for someone to join our enterprise Climate Change and Environmental Impact team to support climate strategy implementation, working directly with the Director of Climate and Environment Strategy. Our climate and environment team acts as a central resource to the enterprise, managing climate strategy development and implementation in collaboration with all of Sun Life’s business groups and functions. This includes partnering with teams across the business to define climate-related goals and develop roadmaps to achieving those goals, bringing together key considerations such as climate-related risks and opportunities, data-based decisions, best practice and benchmarking, and more. The Climate Strategy team drives integration of these climate practices across core business processes to drive implementation and achievement of the enterprise climate strategy. Supporting the team’s efforts is a network of sustainability champions from across the business units and regions in which we operate.
Our ideal candidate is passionate about climate change and has experience working in the development and implementation of climate and environment strategy. This team member will have responsibility in supporting the development and delivery of a best-in-class Climate Transition Plan for the enterprise, based on the transition recommendations from the TCFD, along with a focus on identifying and embedding decarbonization goals within our business groups and functions.
How you will contribute:
- Engage with key stakeholders across the enterprise to identify and embed decarbonization efforts into each business’ strategic plans and support in the establishment of new processes to report on progress against plans
- Drive the coordination of climate-related strategies across the enterprise, ensuring comprehensiveness and cohesiveness of the overall climate strategy at Sun Life
- Partner with teams within the broader sustainability function including climate risk, performance, governance, reporting, among others to coordinate and craft enterprise strategic priorities pertaining to climate change
- Collaborate with business group partners to develop metrics to measure outcomes against both internal objectives and external benchmarks
- Provide insight and advice on best practices on climate transition planning including awareness around voluntary and mandated climate strategy and disclosure requirements
- Create and support the review of enterprise-wide climate-related communication materials, including internal communications and external publications and reports
- Support the team with evolving climate-related deliverables and projects as required
What you will bring with you:
- Relevant degree in environmental science, sustainability, or related area of study.
- Minimum five years' experience in a sustainability role; financial services experience is an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in climate change and environmental sustainability including strategy development and reporting
- Excellent research, analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong ability to assimilate complex climate-related issues and distill into succinct points relevant to the organization.
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated strength in project management and ability to coordinate and organize internal and external stakeholders
- Well-organized and self-motivated, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and tight deadlines, both independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with colleagues and achieve outcomes through influence and collaboration

If you are a California resident, the salary range for this position is:
- Southern region: $81,000 – 121,500 annually
- Central region: $85,400 – 128,100 annually
- Northern region: $ 91,400 – 137,100 annually
If you are a Colorado resident, the salary range for this position is $77,400 – 116,100 annually.
If you are a New York resident, the salary range for this position is $ 91,400 – 137,100 annually.
If you are Washington resident, the salary range for this position is $85,400 – 128,100 annually.
We consider various factors in determining actual pay including your skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition to salary, this position is eligible for incentive awards based on individual and business performance as well as a broad range of competitive benefits.
